We believe that everyone - no matter their age - has something valuable to give.

Generosity is more than just giving things away - it’s about living with an open heart, caring for others, and learning to share what we have with joy. For kids and young people, generosity can start in simple ways: sharing a toy, helping a friend, offering time, or showing kindness to someone who needs it.

This page is designed to help children and youth discover what it means to be truly generous. Through fun activities, stories, challenges, and real-life examples, you’ll learn how small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the world around you.

As you explore these ideas with your family, we hope you’ll be inspired to practice generosity every day and see just how powerful it can be. Let’s grow generous hearts together!

10 ideas to help kids love missions

Pray for field workers

Keep a stack of prayer cards on the dinner table and rotate through them during mealtime prayers.

Read stories

Books and stories are powerful tools for teaching empathy. Choose stories that highlight characters demonstrating generosity. After reading, discuss the characters’ actions and feelings, prompting children to reflect on how they can act similarly.

Give as a family

Teach your kids from a young age that being a good steward of their money involves channelling resources toward the cause of Christ in missions. Older kids can donate some of their lawn mowing and babysitting money. Younger children can earn money doing chores around the house which can be set aside for missions.

Write to sponsor children

Your child (and the whole family) will learn valuable insights about living in other cultures through the eyes of a child, as well as providing important connection and encouragement for your sponsor child.

Take risks as a family

There are ways to live life which help children grasp the reality that discomfort and suffering are normal and rewarding parts of the Christian experience. Volunteer for organisations; house a single mother; and of course, go on mission trips!

Model generosity

Children learn best by observing the adults around them. Demonstrate acts of kindness, whether it’s volunteering, donating items, or helping a neighbour. Talk to children about why you engage in these activities, emphasising the joy you feel when giving to and supporting others.

Celebrate acts of kindness

Recognise and celebrate instances when your child demonstrates generosity, no matter how small. This reinforcement helps them understand the impact of their actions and encourages them to continue being generous individuals.

Make giving a part of life

Incorporate giving into your daily routine. Encourage children to donate toys they no longer use or to participate in food drives. Frame these activities as opportunities to help others, making the experience relatable and meaningful.

Provide opportunities to give

Engage children in activities that allow them to give, such as baking cookies for a friend or crafting cards for a local nursing home. These hands-on experiences make giving tangible and memorable.

Why not get involved in our monthly kids Missions Market- the perfect opportunity to serve and give together as a family!

Teach the value of sharing

Utilise everyday moments, such as sharing snacks or toys, to teach generosity. Praise children when they share, reinforcing the idea that giving brings happiness to both the giver and the receiver.
